
Thomas Jeffrey Hanks (born July 9 1956) is an American actor and filmmaker. He is renowned for his comedic and dramatic roles and is considered an American famous cultural icon. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was a Concord, California native to Janet Marylyn Hanks, a hospital worker and Amos Mefford Hanks an itinerant cook. His mother, originally called "Fraga" was from part of a Portuguese family. His father, however, was mainly English. Tom was raised in a family he calls "fractured". He had no acting experience in college, and credits his inability get a role in a college production with launching his career. He walked into the city, and auditioned for a community theater play, was requested by the director of the show to visit Cleveland, and there the beginning of his acting career took off.
